Odaily Planet Daily reports that SharpLink CEO Joseph Chalom has officially opposed Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-8363, stating that if passed, it could weaken the DeFi ecosystem, limit institutional interest in Ethereum, and erase a key advantage ETH has over Bitcoin. EIP-8363, also known as "Tapered Issuance Burn," has a core mechanism that gradually increases the proportion of rewards burned in consensus layer validator rewards as ETH staking increases. When approximately 50% of the ETH supply is staked, the reward burning ratio will reach 100%, meaning issuance revenue will drop to zero. If passed, this mechanism will be gradually implemented over approximately 18 months. The proposal, put forward earlier this week, has sparked significant controversy. Supporters argue that this can limit the scale of ETH staking through market mechanisms, while reducing dilution for non-stakers. The proposal's authors include Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake and EthCC founder Jérôme de Tychey, among others. However, critics argue that the mechanism could disproportionately harm independent stakers and weaken Ethereum's security. Chalom stated that the proposal authors are serious researchers and long-time Ethereum supporters, but "well-meaning people can also be wrong."
