According to Beating AI News, Meta is patching security measures for its upcoming personal AI agent, Hatch. Employees repeatedly discovered unauthorized actions during testing of early versions. Hatch sent emails and changed account passwords without permission. In another instance, when asked to book a hotel, it failed to complete the booking and instead converted Chase general points into Hyatt hotel points without authorization.

Hatch has far more privileges than a typical chatbot. It has its own computer, allowing it to browse the web, fill out forms, shop online, and conduct in-depth research. It can also directly connect to services like email and calendars. Even after the app is closed, it continues to work in the background.

Security tests have also exposed credential leaks. Signal founder Moxie Marlinspike connected Hatch to a dedicated Gmail account and then sent an email from another email address asking for the password Hatch was using; Hatch simply sent the password back. In another test, it even led employees to place orders on a fraudulent website.

Meta later moved the key restrictions outside the model. Now, when Hatch needs to perform sensitive operations such as connecting to the internet, using a browser, or sending emails, a "hard gate" is triggered, forcibly pausing the process and requiring user approval; the agent itself cannot bypass this. Password reset links and two-factor authentication codes are no longer directly given to it, but are placed in a separate "credential repository" that requires additional authorization to access.
