According to BlockBeats, on September 15th, Solana completed its mainnet upgrade, increasing the maximum size of a single transaction from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes, an increase of more than three times, providing developers with more space to perform more complex operations in a single transaction.

According to the Solana Foundation, the upgrade officially took effect at approximately 1:00 AM UTC on September 15th, at the start of the 1035th epoch on the mainnet. This upgrade also introduces the v1 transaction format while maintaining full backward compatibility with the old transaction format; existing transaction formats can continue to be used. Protocols wishing to utilize a larger transaction space will need to upgrade to the v1 format.

The Solana Foundation stated that this upgrade primarily aims to help developers integrate work that could not previously be contained in a single transaction into on-chain transactions, including zero-knowledge proofs, multi-signature transactions, and new on-chain signature schemes.

Solana has been continuously upgrading its network performance recently. In August, Solana reduced the block slot time from 400 milliseconds to 350 milliseconds; it had previously announced plans to further reduce it to 200 milliseconds. Furthermore, on August 28th, Solana validators approved doubling the rate of decline in the network's annual inflation rate to reduce the future issuance of SOL.
