According to BlockBeats, the Bitcoin BIP-110 proposal is approaching its early August deadline on July 12th, but miner support remains below 1%, indicating significant resistance. BIP-110, short for "Reduced Data Temporary Soft Fork," centers on limiting non-financial data on the Bitcoin blockchain. The proposal plans to limit the OP_RETURN data capacity within a year, prohibit the writing of most arbitrary data exceeding 256 bytes, and restrict certain script formats primarily used for data storage.
Supporters argue that the proposal would allow the Bitcoin network to focus more on payment functions and reduce the workload on nodes; opponents, on the other hand, believe that it would escalate the policy debate over block space usage into a change in consensus rules and determine which transactions are "acceptable".
Strategy founder Michael Saylor and Blockstream co-founder Adam Back have both publicly opposed BIP-110. Saylor stated, "There are 110 things more dangerous than junk data," and claimed that the proposal would "turn the junk data controversy into a consensus shift, invalidating some currently valid and fee-paying transactions." Adam Back stated that if supporters cannot accept the status quo, they can choose to fork, but "Bitcoin will not join."
Data shows that BIP-110 uses a user-activated soft fork mechanism and sets a 55% miner signal threshold, but the miner signal rate has never exceeded approximately 1%, and is currently at zero. No major mining pools support it. The percentage of nodes running the BIP-110 software is also only in the single digits, mainly from Bitcoin Knots users.
The current signaling cycle for this proposal is expected to end around block height 959,615, with a voluntary lock-up period anticipated in early August and activation planned for around September. If widespread support is still lacking by then, it could lead to a few nodes forming a separate chain.
According to BlockBeats, on July 12, crypto analyst Ali Charts stated that Bitcoin should pay attention to the $64,700 level, as this position is a key turning point for Bitcoin's next major trend.
If Bitcoin fails to break through the top of the channel at $64,700, it could trigger a deeper pullback. If sellers hold this level, Bitcoin could fall back to the middle support level of the channel at $63,000 and may further test the bottom of the channel at around $61,500.
However, Ali Charts states that if Bitcoin can close above $64,700 on the hourly chart, the bearish outlook will be invalidated. A break above this resistance level could see Bitcoin further gains towards $66,400, with a second target of $68,000.
