BlockBeats reports that on August 11, US President Trump responded to Iran's proposed peace deal conditions, demanding compensation from Iran for those killed in war, attacks, and protests. His escalating rhetoric could complicate efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, Iranian officials reiterated their compensation demands, directly linking the issue to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
The outlook for US-Iran negotiations deteriorated again, with talks to reopen the Strait of Hormuz stalled, driving a sharp rebound in international oil prices. According to Bitget data, WTI crude oil futures climbed back above $82 per barrel on Monday, rising over 5% intraday, while Brent crude broke through $87 per barrel, recording its fourth consecutive day of gains. The rapid rise in energy prices has reignited market concerns about inflation and a potential Fed rate hike this year, causing US Treasury yields to rise across the board.
According to BIT (bit.com) market data, U.S. stocks closed down Monday: the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.1%, the S&P 500 fell 0.06%, and the Nasdaq Composite fell 0.32%. The semiconductor sector was under pressure, with the Philadelphia Semiconductor Index closing down 2.94%. Nvidia's financing plans were another significant factor weighing on the technology sector. Reports indicate that Nvidia, in partnership with Wall Street giants, is planning a $500 billion AI infrastructure financing round. Some investors are concerned that such arrangements could create a "circular financing" structure and cast doubt on the genuine demand for AI.
Semiconductor stocks generally fell, with Arm down 5.21%, MRVL down 4.65%, Intel (INTC) down 4.06%, Qualcomm (QCOM) down 3.39%, Applied Materials (AMAT) down 3.16%, and Nvidia (NVDA) and AMD both down 2.86%.
Optical communication concept stocks led the decline, with Coherent (COHR) down 14.26%, Lumentum (LITE) down 8.61%, Ciena (CIEN) down 5.98%, Astera Labs (ALAB) down 5.07%, Corning (GLW) down 4.78%, and Credo (CRDO) down 3.98%.
The storage sector showed mixed performance, with SanDisk (SNDK) up 2.12% and Western Digital (WDC) up 0.93%; SK Hynix (SKHY) down 1.90%, Micron Technology (MU) down 1.89%, and Seagate Technology (STX) down 1.45%.
