According to a report by Counterpoint Research on August 12th, as AI workloads migrate from training to inference, enterprise-grade SSDs (eSSDs) will account for 48% of global NAND shipments in the second quarter of 2026, nearly double the 26% share in the same period last year. Increased demand from the server sector has led to tighter supply of consumer-grade NAND, driving industry revenue to record levels, approximately five times higher than in the second quarter of 2025.

On the supplier side, Samsung continues to rank first with a 25% market share, but this is lower than the 32% in the second quarter of 2024, mainly due to its prioritization of high-margin DRAM capacity. SK Hynix ranks second with 22%, and its subsidiary Solidigm's NAND bit shipments increased by 40% quarter-on-quarter. Yangtze Memory's market share rose to 14%, surpassing Kioxia to enter the top three globally for the first time; its shipments increased by 22% year-on-year and 5% quarter-on-quarter.

Counterpoint points out that while Yangtze Memory Technologies Co., Ltd. (YMTC) ranks third in terms of shipments, it still ranks fifth in terms of revenue, lagging behind Micron and Kioxia. This is mainly because its product portfolio remains concentrated on consumer applications, with a relatively low proportion of high-priced data center eSSDs. The company plans to further increase the proportion of eSSD products in the second half of the year.

The report projects that by the end of 2026, server eSSDs will account for more than half of global NAND bit shipments. As servers become the primary source of NAND demand, future competition among suppliers will depend more on high-value product portfolios than just overall shipment volume.
