The new guidelines apply to financial companies that have introduced AI, as well as FinTech companies that influence financial transactions, and establish seven principles: governance, legality, complementarity, credibility, financial stability, fiduciary duty, and security. The South Korean government plans to relax network security regulations applicable to some financial institutions, improve the personal credit information consent system, data anonymization processing and related rules, and study the responsibilities, authority rules, and AI-specific regulatory schemes for AI agents. On June 22, the day the guidelines take effect, the Financial Supervisory Service of South Korea will simultaneously release a framework for AI risk management in the financial sector, and the Financial Security Service of South Korea will release guidelines for AI security in the financial sector.
