The full name of DCR coin is Decred. DCR coin is an independent digital currency. Decred is a cryptocurrency, similar to Bitcoin, with an emphasis on community input, open governance and sustainable funding and development.

Decred's goal is to become a truly decentralized digital currency with open governance, open collaboration, and continuous evolution as a free community.

The proof of work mechanism is more like a game, which is an important reason why BTC is safe. Its essence is the process of calculating and striving for the right of accounting, which makes the cost of attack far higher than the benefit of attack when paying a lot of computing power cost and energy cost (electricity). Consensus rules but pure PoW drawback is obvious, because of the rules of the consensus of PoW, calculate the force assigned to the right to charge to an account with the right to check (mine pool package empty block also no one can limit), but most now see cash users not calculate with force, so a CPU ticket cannot realize the decentralized (decentralization of power), it is easy to metallogenic bully. The original PoS is to calculate the age of coins and allocate the right to speak according to the age of coins so as to achieve the effect of governance. However, at present, even if PoS is used, the voting process can only be carried out in forums (compared with PoW, it has no practical significance). Moreover, pure PoS determines that the corresponding cryptocurrency must be pre-mined. And the security of pure PoS can only depend on the full node number of packaging and authentication blocks being large and scattered. Although PoS does not consume a lot of energy, in most cases it is far less secure than pure PoW.

Decred uses a hybrid PoW+PoS consensus mechanism and divides the block rewards to decentralize power. Miners get 60% of the block for their work, ballot holders get 30%, and 10% of the block goes into community funds, allowing Decred to continue development without outside funding. In addition, Decred's PoS is different from other PoS. For projects with other PoS or hybrid consensus mechanisms (Dash, EOS, etc.), there is a certain threshold to become a PoS node (e.g. Lock a certain number of coins, a high-performance server), and the node's job is only to keep the whole node online and verify the validity of the block. For decentralization (decentralization), it only encourages the deployment of the whole node and hands over the power of verifying the validity of the block to the whole node. Solution to major upgrade iteration and consensus of the project is still similar to that of BTC community, but because the threshold of full node is too high, more voting rights of currency holders are sacrificed, which is a solution to improve efficiency at the expense of democracy. Decred's PoS takes a solution that works both ways.

Elliptic curve signature algorithm: it is a 128-bit encryption digital signature algorithm ED25519. Compared with BTC's ECDSA signature, it is simpler and can achieve consensus quickly, which improves the speed of transfer. Blake-256 algorithm: It has remarkable performance on x86-64 microarchitecture and is superior to BTC's SHA 256 algorithm. Short messages can be transmitted faster. Consensus mechanism: POS + POW combined with innovation perfectly solves the problem of "BTC community coin holders have no decision-making power".

The hybrid consensus mechanism (POW+POS) is better than BTC, which can balance the interests of miners, owners and developers. Compared with BTC, the cost of BTC being attacked by 51% computational force is $500 million, while DCR needs $2.8 billion to achieve the same effect, increasing the capital cost of malicious attackers. Politeia's proposal voting system gives communities a high degree of project governance. Lightning network, complete instant to account, anonymous transaction, protect user privacy, cross-chain atomic swap, no longer need centralized exchange to complete the transfer transaction, so that the funds are more secure.

Decred was born just to solve many problems of BTC, which can be said to be a better alternative version of BTC. However, due to the openness, freedom and community concept of Decred community, Decred has been trying to take the road of decentralization.
