Michael Saylor: Without security, usability, capital, and users, forking is pointless.
According to BlockBeats, on August 9th, Strategy founder Michael Saylor stated that Bitcoin operates exactly as designed. BIP-110 was allowed to fork freely, and the Bitcoin network was free to choose not to follow. As a result, approximately 99.85% of Bitcoin's hash power remained on the original network, and the BIP-110 fork mined only 2 blocks, currently lagging behind by more than 80 blocks.
He pointed out that BIP-110 only receives about 0.15% of Bitcoin's hash power and needs to mine 2015 more blocks before the first difficulty adjustment. At the current block generation rate, this process will take about 25 years.
Saylor stated, "Anyone can fork Bitcoin, but without security, utility, capital, and users, a fork is pointless. Consensus needs to be earned, not announced."

South Africa plans to restrict cross-border transactions of crypto assets by companies; VALR warns this could weaken regulatory oversight.
Odaily Planet Daily reports that South Africa's National Treasury and the South African Reserve Bank (SARB) have released a draft rule on cross-border transfers of crypto assets. Farzam Ehsani, co-founder and CEO of crypto asset trading platform VALR, stated that without significant revisions to key provisions, the framework could harm the country's digital asset industry and drive capital outflows. The draft allows individual residents to transfer crypto assets overseas within existing foreign exchange quotas, but restricts businesses from conducting cross-border crypto asset transactions and classifies certain deposits from private, non-custodial self-custodial wallets as unacceptable transfers to local crypto asset service providers (CASPs). Ehsani believes this could prompt businesses and retail investors to migrate to overseas platforms. Ehsani points out that prohibiting regulated entities from processing legitimate business transactions, especially cross-border stablecoin payments, could drive transactions underground or overseas, thereby weakening the transaction visibility and monitoring capabilities that regulators aim to achieve. The South African National Treasury and SARB have opened a public comment period, with a feedback deadline of September 30th.
Samsung's HBM4 yield rate improved to 80% four months ahead of schedule, and the company plans to increase its HBM market share to approximately 38% by the end of the year.
According to a report by the Seoul Economic Daily on August 9th, Samsung Electronics' sixth-generation high-bandwidth memory HBM4, which was the first in the world to begin mass production and shipment in February this year, has recently achieved a yield rate approaching 80%. Initially, its yield rate was less than 60%, but it stabilized within six months, approximately four months ahead of the original target of reaching 80% by the end of the year. In the semiconductor industry, an 80% yield rate is often referred to as the "golden yield," meaning that companies can ensure stable production and improve profitability while reducing defect rates.
Samsung Electronics stated that with HBM4 yields stabilizing, the company plans to more than triple its HBM4 revenue in the third quarter compared to the previous quarter, and increase HBM4's share of overall HBM revenue in the second half of the year to over 60%. The company also aims to increase its HBM market share to approximately 38% by the end of the year, a figure similar to its DRAM market share. Increased HBM4 supply will also drive production of Nvidia's Vera Rubin AI accelerator.
Lee Jong-hwan, a professor in the Department of Systems Semiconductor Engineering at Sangmyung University in South Korea, said that for major customers such as Nvidia, it is more advantageous to purchase from multiple suppliers than to rely on a single company; Samsung Electronics can expand its HBM4 supply and rapidly increase its market share.
Samsung plans to more than triple its third-quarter revenue as HBM4 yield improves to 80%.
According to a post on the X platform by Citrini analyst Jukan, as reported by Odaily Planet Daily, Samsung has improved its HBM4 yield to 80%, according to South Korean media. In early mass production this February, the HBM4 yield was still below 60%, showing a significant improvement within six months. An industry source cited by a South Korean media outlet stated that the year-end yield target was originally set at 80%, but with the official expansion of production in the second half of the year, the pace of process improvement exceeded expectations. The report states that with the rapid achievement of expected HBM4 yields, Samsung has decided to increase its third-quarter HBM4 revenue by more than three times compared to the previous quarter, and has formulated plans to make HBM4 account for more than 60% of total HBM revenue in the second half of the year. Furthermore, Samsung has set a year-end target to increase its HBM market share, aiming to reach a level comparable to its DRAM market share, approximately 38%.
