In a year marked by increased regulatory scrutiny and rising user expectations, KuCoin has taken concrete steps to strengthen its position as one of the most secure and compliant cryptocurrency exchanges globally. The company’s recently released H1 2025 report outlines a series of initiatives that place trust, regulation, and user safety at the center of its long-term strategy.

At a time when the industry continues to grapple with high-profile security incidents and evolving global frameworks, KuCoin has emerged with measurable progress in both infrastructure and regulatory alignment. Its achievements in the first half of 2025 paint a picture of an exchange actively investing in durability and user confidence.

Certifications That Set a Standard

One of the most significant developments highlighted in the report is KuCoin’s attainment of SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001:2022 certifications. These globally recognized standards require strict audits of internal controls, data protection protocols, and operational risk management. Achieving both simultaneously is uncommon in the exchange landscape, demonstrating a consistent commitment to safeguarding user assets and privacy.

In parallel, KuCoin’s integration with BitGo’s Go Network enables institutional clients to utilize off-exchange settlement and segregated custody, backed by up to $250 million in insurance coverage. The move not only addresses the risk of custodial concentration but also brings added reassurance for professional traders.

External Validation and Real-Time Defense

Security ratings provider CER.live awarded KuCoin a AAA rating, ranking it among the top four most secure exchanges globally. The rating factors in areas such as server infrastructure, penetration testing, user protections, and responsiveness to vulnerabilities.

Beyond audits and ratings, KuCoin’s day-to-day threat mitigation efforts are equally notable. In the first half of 2025 alone, KuCoin’s systems generated over 23.7 million real-time alerts to flag suspicious activity. The exchange also scaled its Bugcrowd bounty program, offering up to $10,000 in rewards for responsible disclosure of vulnerabilities.

The $2 Billion Trust Project

Many of these initiatives are tied to KuCoin’s long-term security framework: the $2 Billion Trust Project. Launched in early 2025, the program is designed to enhance transparency and system resilience. It includes 100% proof-of-reserves verification, adoption of zero-trust security architecture, expanded encryption protocols, and infrastructure upgrades.

These measures reflect an industry-wide shift toward more transparent and robust operational models, as users demand verifiable protections and exchanges compete to set new benchmarks.

Proactive Compliance, Regional Licensing

KuCoin’s security strategy is matched by its regulatory efforts. In Europe, the exchange submitted an application for a Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) license in Austria, signaling its intent to operate under the EU’s upcoming framework for digital asset services. Once approved, this would enable KuCoin to provide services seamlessly across the European Economic Area, under a unified compliance regime.

In Southeast Asia, KuCoin marked a key milestone with the full launch of KuCoin Thailand,  its first local exchange licensed by the Thai SEC. Built on KuCoin’s global infrastructure, the platform is tailored for local preferences and operates under a fully regulated model. It represents the company’s blueprint for expansion into other regulated markets.

A Compliance-First Path Forward

KuCoin’s dual focus on regulation and security is shaping its identity as a trust-first exchange. By aligning with top-tier standards and proactively seeking licenses in high-stakes jurisdictions, the company is sending a clear signal to users, partners, and regulators.

In a fragmented and often volatile market, exchanges that can demonstrate resilience, verifiability, and long-term compliance are becoming increasingly differentiated. KuCoin’s H1 2025 actions reflect this shift,  positioning it not just as a trading platform but as a secure and regulated gateway to the digital asset ecosystem.
