Splinterlands is a blockchain-based digital collectible card game inspired by games such as Magic the Gathering and Hearthstone where players can collect cards with different attributes, And fight other players in skill-based tournaments. In this game, players can buy, sell and trade their digital assets in the same way they can with physical trading card games such as Magic the Gathering, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-oh! 
Splinterlands was created because once the game goes digital, players lose the ability to actually own their assets (or trading cards). With blockchain technology, it allows players to own and trade their digital assets freely again. It also allows for true scarcity and transparency, meaning that all cards on Splinterlands have a verifiable supply and history. Players fight other players by choosing rank battles or practice battles. Through ranking battles, players can improve their level. There are no disadvantages to playing ranking battles as a beginner, as players below 100 level do not lose ranking points. Battles take place between players of similar strength. Against your opponent, each side chooses a set of 6 monster cards and 1 Summoner card to fight, destroying all monster cards and winning the battle. 
Splinterlands runs on the Hive blockchain, which means that all actions in the game are recorded on the blockchain. This means that anyone can join the game by creating a Hive blockchain address, making the game license-free. It also provides Splinterlands with a transparent record of all actions in the game, including combat outcomes, ensuring fairness and transparency. Players have a basic set of cards and can purchase supplementary packs or specific cards from other players. These cards can be upgraded and used in battles with other players. In these ranking battles, players compete for dark Energy Crystals (DEC), The game's currency. Players can also earn DEC by converting unused cards in their collection. DEC can be used to purchase in-game items or trade cards from other players in the Splinterland market. DEC can also be traded between players and on third-party exchanges. The usefulness of DEC will continue to grow as more features are added to games. 
Splintershards (SPS) tokens will act as DAOs on the binance smart chain platform. SPS tokens are governance tokens that will be integrated into Splinterland games, giving players the option to influence decisions about the game and ecosystem. Players can also propose their own changes, such as changing tournament schedules, modifying combat Settings, or changing DEC inflation pools. 
 While the game is free to play, to unlock the game in its full form, you have to buy a summoner's spell book for $10. DEC's usefulness will continue to increase with the addition of the summoner's spellbook feature to the game. , players can access their account keys and unlock the ability to obtain dark energy crystals, which can be exchanged for real money. 
Splinterlands launched in May 2018 and launched Splintershards (SPS), the SPS decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) 's governance token in late July 2021. It completed $3.6 million in private token sales, representing 6.6% of the SPS token supply. After reaching 100,000 players in the first three years, it added another 50,000 in just one month from June 2021. Splinterland plans to build its games in the second half of 2021, with the Oracle integration scheduled for the first quarter of 2022.
